Class Description

Pre-requisite: Any student who completed Fun with Python class or 6th Graders
Textbook: Coding Games in Python (2018)

This fun-filled course is intended for students who completed “Fun with Python” class or the first-time coder who is a rising 6 th grader. Students will learn computer programming by coding playable video games in Python. Students will get an overview of basic concepts of Python programming. Then they will create many fun puzzle, platform and strategy games with Python turtle, tkinter and Pygame libraries. It is strongly recommended that students bring a Windows laptop to the class, although a MacBook will be acceptable as long as the student knows how to manage files and install programs.

About the Instructor
Dr. Yang is a scientist in a world-class research institution for over 10 years. He has been developing Python, C/C++, Matlab, Delphi and Fortran codes for numerical modeling, signal processing, scientific data analysis and visualization, and artificial intelligence (AI). He also spent 8 years in a small technology company as Chief Scientist and Scientific Programmer for the design and development of commercial scientific modeling software.  He taught “Fun with Python”, “Intro to Python” and “Python for Data Science” courses since 2017.
