Class Description

Please be noted that this is a semester class of 15 weeks from Aug 18 to Dec 15, 2018 (Fall 2018).
Prerequisite for this class: Completed Algebra I

Reference Book: Python Crash Course, 2016, by Eric Matthes
                            Teach Your Kids to Code, 2015, by Bryson Payne

This course will teach students the fundamentals of Python programming such as loops, conditions, functions and classes. In addition, students will explore computing algorithms, which improves their ability in problem solving. This course focuses on hands-on coding skills.
Coding projects will be fun, interesting and interactive with graphics, animations and games. No prior programming experience is required. Students must bring a laptop to the class, preferably a Windows PC, though a Mac will be fine.

About the instructor:
Dr. Xianjin Yang has been a research scientist in a world-class research institution for last 8 years. He uses Matlab and Python daily for digital signal processing and scientific data analysis and visualization. He spent another 8 years as Chief Scientist and scientific programmer in a small technology company in geophysical imaging.
