Class Description

 
* All lessons will be useful for students throughout middle school, high school, college and career whether they are interested in competitive high school speech and debate
* All teaching methods and motivation will be based on award-winning Speech and Debate program at The Quarry Lane School, recently named the #1 Bay Area small school in debate based on results at local, state and national levels of competition
* All lessons will be useful for students throughout middle school, high school, college and career whether they are interested in competitive high school speech and debate
* Fishbowl discussion techniques for public high school classes
* Incorporation of current events for students to build them into their speeches
* Students will perform multiple types of speeches in class on individual and group basis
* All Individual Event competitive categories will be taught, including: Oratory, Advocacy, Impromptu, Expository, Extemporaneous, Dramatic and Humorous Interpretation, Oral Interpretation, Duo Interpretation, Thematic Interpretation
* Debate categories to be taught: Public Forum, Lincoln Douglas, and Parliamentary
* All lessons on how to research, plan, and write cases will involve transferable skills to all types of essay writing in high school classes and on standardized exams
